昭和时期，在长崎一座破败的矿山小镇，生活着身形健硕的坂口松太郎（松平健 配音）。他孔武野蛮，粗鲁不羁，已经变成了大人却还在念中学，只为能天天看到长他五岁的美丽女老师南令子（水谷优子 配音）。在街上热出前所未有的大乱子后，松太郎不得不退学，随着班主任岛田外出寻找工作。半路中的争执让他意外踏入相扑的大门。最初松太郎进入雷神部屋修行，并结识了田中清（塩屋浩三 配音）这样的好朋友。松太郎如鱼得水，战绩骄人，却始终不改傲慢蛮横的劣根性格，由此惹出无数的争端和麻烦。经历了命运和事业的低谷，决意洗心革面的松太郎卷土重来，朝着相扑的巅峰进发，而他和南老师的缘分也未就此结束…… 本片根据千叶彻弥（ちばてつや）连载十六年的经典相扑漫画改编。
