1959年进入上海美术电影制片厂，先后担任动画设计、副导演、导演。期间执导的美术片有《丝腰带》、《红军桥》、《天书奇谭》等。1963年，与万古蟾合导的剪纸片《金色的海螺》曾获印度尼西亚1964第三届亚非国际电影节卢蒙巴奖。1985年执导的《女娲补天》获法国1986年圣罗马国际儿童电影节特别奖
