乔三夺得载满石头酒桶，却蒙上盗金者之名，被浪族女子月影禁锢迫供，此时孤竹扮官兵，讹称要拘捕盗金者乔三，月影无奈放人。 孤竹表露「御金保家」身份，望乔三助己取回贡金，乔三为报恩允之。路上遇楚楚携患有怪病之兄长找神医求医，俩顺路护送。不料怪事频生，楚之兄长无故坠井死亡，孤竹亦身中剧毒，幸得乔三以身犯险向葛神医取解药，二人友情增进。不料发现葛神医又被杀，二人又遭一行尸走肉怪人行刺，孤竹感事有跷蹊决回廷禀告。 原来整件事由夺贡金至现在，全部由「大堡垒」堡主楚天威策划，手下孤竹实行，目的招揽乔三，以增实力，只候时机。另外孤竹亦建议以十分一御用金招揽浪族人，堡主允。 浪族人到中原目的乃追寻族中失落之「圣物」，因经费不足才有夺金之念，月影不欲受制于人，拒孤竹合作之意，孤竹仍以金相赠作见面礼，月影感激，且欠下「大堡垒」人情。
