向前和若雪决定去乡下把向前的老母亲姜氏接来一同生活，齐向前跪在抗日战争中死去的亲人们的墓碑前把新收的麦子洒在大地上，表达自己的思念之情。在两人真诚的劝说下，姜氏终于决定跟着他们一起回到大北厂生活。姜氏到来的那一天邻居们全都出来欢迎这位革命的母亲，“家有一老，如有一宝”，大北厂自此又多了一位慈善的老人。白若雪还贴心地给姜氏准备了被褥和暖水袋，姜氏在新家里倍感温暖，同时姜氏的细腻和宽厚也给齐向前和白若雪带来了更多家的安定。时间一晃而过，齐向前和白若雪也有了建设和奋斗两个孩子，其他的家庭也都在大北厂扎根，有了后代，唯独盛捷和秋实依然形单影只，显得有些格格不入。国庆游园时，秋实见义勇为救了溺水的群众，盛捷上前关照浑身湿透的秋实，两个有着同样心境的人惺惺相惜。
