一家人正高高兴兴的吃饭时，建设回来了，建设带来了村里的木头制作成的产品，准备来推销一些副业，给村里增加点收入，齐向前对建设的“投机倒把”勃然大怒，把建设赶出了家门。这时姜氏的胃病又发作了，经过诊断，姜氏的生命可能不足一个月了，齐向前背着姜氏四处看病，但姜氏不愿再去医院了，想在家中度过最后的时光。姜氏躺在病榻上嘱咐着家里的大事小事，整个家属院都弥漫着悲伤的气氛。姜氏在齐向前的怀里安详地闭上了眼睛，送走姜氏后齐向前大病了一场，昏迷不醒，彷佛姜氏的走也带走了齐向前的一部分，这个和善的老人的离开成为了大北厂很多人心里的痛。内燃机的设计和生产正如火如荼地进行着，齐向前和秋实这两个大北厂的“老人”看着大北厂的成长万分感慨。永刚终于得偿所愿成为了一名海军，他第一时间和干爹齐向前分享了这个好消息，两个人兴高采烈地去吃熏鸡了，这可把亲爹赵多福气得半死，自己在家喝闷酒。
