盛捷因为不满厂里对待齐向前和何枫处理发了牢骚，耿直的她还与车间的造反派发生了争吵。厂革委会决定让盛捷到农场学习班接受劳动改造，盛捷和秋实的儿子秋健无人看管，姜氏主动把秋健接回家照看，这让同时遭难的秋实夫妇大为感动。秋实为盛捷的事儿求刘桂芹帮忙，无奈盛捷秉性耿直不肯承认错误，她只得同齐向前一样到学习班接受改造。齐向前对眼前发生的运动想不通，迷茫消极，何枫的积极向上，对党充满信心和无怨无悔让齐向前苦闷的心情大为改观，他始终认为何枫是他生命中的一盏指路明灯。秋实被安排到白若雪所在的学习班学习，盛捷被下放到农场改造，这两对昔日的“有情人”在这样的特殊的境遇中重逢又引起厂里不少风言风语。而盛捷夫妇和齐向前夫妇都坚信着自己的另一半。特殊的日子里，左邻右舍挨批的家庭支离破碎，好在有姜氏，这位淳朴的乡下女人把受难的孩子团拢在一起，成为了那个冷酷的年代的一抹暖色。
